At Least 34 Dead in Tourist Boat Capsize During Storm in Vietnam’s Ha Long Bay

At least 34 people are dead after a boat carrying tourists capsized during a thunderstorm in Vietnam's Ha Long Bay Saturday.

The vessel carried 48 passengers and five crew members — mostly Vietnamese families partaking in a sightseeing excursion — before overturning in torrential rain.

Rescue workers managed to save 11 people and are continuing their search for any bodies or survivors near the site of the incident.

Saturday’s rocky weather came days ahead of Tropical Storm Wipha’s anticipated landfall in Vietnam’s northern coast. Wipha is the third typhoon to hit the South China Sea this year.
