Alex Honnold made history by becoming the first person to free solo El Capitan—a 3,000ft near-vertical granite wall—with no ropes, no safety gear, and no room for error. Every move had to be perfect as he climbed one of the most challenging routes in the world using nothing but his hands and feet. Against all odds, he reached the top, achieving what many thought was impossible.
