Alan Pollock's Tale of Woytek, the Soldier Bear 🐻

The story of Woytek the Soldier Bear, adopted by Polish soldiers in WW2, re-told by Alan Pollock and illustrated by Bryony Thomson in a picture book from Old Barn Books, UK. The bearcub grew to be part of the regiment and at the end of the war, when neither bear nor soldiers could go home, travelled with them as refugees to Scotland and ended his days in the zoo in Edinburgh, where a statue stands to honour the brave combatants. A story of family, friendship and loyalty in the face of the horror of war and alienation.
