About this video
A calm trip for an old oven turned into one of the best days we’ve had out here.
After a year of cooking on a little two-burner camp stove, the day finally came — we got ourselves a real oven. We took the boat to the mainland to pick up an old propane stove we found, loaded it carefully, and then made a quick stop at the local shop that carries everything from paint thinner to chocolate cake. We grabbed a few ingredients to break in the new oven before heading home.
The ride back turned into something special — halfway across the bay, a big pod of dolphins showed up and started following us, circling the boat and playing in the wake. It was one of those moments that makes island life worth every bit of work.
Once back home, we unloaded the oven and hauled it inside. Kelly gathered some fresh eggs from the hen house and baked homemade sourdough chocolate chip cookies — the first thing ever baked in our new oven. After that, it was right back to house projects. I went upstairs with the saw to cut out the second half of the floor and old beams, replacing everything that needed it. By the end of it, the new floor was done, and the house felt one big step closer to finished.
We wrapped up the week by sitting down for a Q&A at the kitchen table, chatting about the projects, answering questions from the comments and talking about what’s coming next. Thank you for being here with us, we love you Skote's!
