David D'Costa, a devoted party worker in Madras (now Chennai), lives with his pregnant wife, Mary. He holds unwavering faith in his party leader, Chaturvedi. Tragically, Chaturvedi betrays this trust by assaulting Mary, leading to her suicide. When David seeks justice, he is framed by Chaturvedi and his accomplices, resulting in a 24-year imprisonment. Upon release, David discovers that his son, Vijay—raised by his friend Mahesh—is now a police officer. Determined to avenge his wife's death and his wrongful incarceration, David's quest for retribution sets him on a collision course with his own son.

This film is a remake of the Tamil movie "Oru Kaidhiyin Diary" and features performances by Jaya Prada, Sridevi, and Anupam Kher
