Via Sistina has edged out Buckaroo to defend her Cox Plate crown and hand trainer Chris Waller a sixth win in the weight-for-age showpiece.

In a race for the ages, the champion mare defeated stablemate Buckaroo in a photo finish to send off The Valley as we know it in style.

Via Sistina was given a perfect ride by James McDonald, the champion jockey making it four straight wins in the $5m feature.

Treasurethe Moment ran a gallant race for third, looking the winner turning for home.

But in the end it was the Waller-trained Via Sistina and Buckaroo which fought out the finish to the roars of the crowd.
