But for 90 years from 1890 to 1980 The Netherlands was reigned over by three successive Queens. Wilhelmina inherited the throne after the early deaths of all three of her brothers, Juliana because she was an only child and Beatrix because she was the eldest of 4 sisters. These Queens were heroes of the first and second world wars, the first female billionaires, courted controversy with their choices of husbands and friends and won the admiration of their people with their down-to-earth style.
