He was wearing a helmet… but not a neck guard, and that small miss cost him everything.

This incident painfully reminds everyone of Phil Hughes’ death in 2014, who was also hit in the same area — a spot that can instantly damage the nervous system.
It was after that tragedy that the neck guard was introduced, but sadly, many players — even international ones — still don’t wear it regularly.

It’s time ICC steps in and makes neck guards mandatory at every level of cricket.
