About this video
House Speaker Mike Johnson blamed Democrats on Thursday for the record-setting shutdown, saying Republicans are "ready to open" the government.
"Every American who's going to miss a flight and is going without a paycheck and is not able to make their car note because of it, they need to know that Senate Democrats are personally responsible for that," he said.
Johnson told PBS News Hour's Lisa Desjardins that some centrist Democrats have seemed to pull back from talking to Republicans about a potential deal at the urging of Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.
The shutdown set the record for the longest in American history on Wednesday as it entered its 36th day.
