About this video

Quantum computers put a serious threat on currently applied cryptography and information security systems. More specifically, they are able to break security systems based on classical cryptography and thus gain access to valuable and sensitive data. For the Internetof Things and products with long lifecycles the consequences are disastrous. In various sectors such as automotive or manufacturing any security breach may cause safety issues or financial losses. Employing quantum-resistant cryptography allows to fully protect IoT-devices and IT-infrastructures from attacks carried out by quantum computers. In this talk, we briefly explain at the example of two use cases how this protection is achieved. First, we show that IoT-communication protocols can be upgraded to supply full protection while maintaining scalability beside other security features. Furthermore, in another use case we point out that it is even possible to avoid the need for a public key infrastructure which reduces costs and complexity and thus represents a useful feature in some scenarios. It is also important to note that QKD systems may be combined with post quantum cryptography in order to protect highly sensitive data. Finally, we briefly highlight the first post quantum standard for encryption (DINSPEC).
