Mass Protest by Ultra-Orthodox Jews Against Military Draft in Jerusalem

Ultra-Orthodox Jews protest at the entrance of Jerusalem against drafting in the army.

Organisers are calling for a million people to attend the protest.

A decades-old arrangement started by Israel's first prime minister granted hundreds of ultra-Orthodox men exemptions from compulsory Israeli service.

Over the years, those exemptions ballooned into the thousands and created deep divisions in Israel.

Last June, Israel's Supreme Court unanimously ordered the government to begin drafting ultra-Orthodox Jewish men into the army.
