Break a Caesar Cipher – One of the Oldest Known Encryption Method of the Ancient World

#cryptology, #cryptography, #cryptanalysis In this video, we demonstrate how you can break a Caesar cipher with CrypTool 2 (CT2). First, a Caesar cipher is created with CT2. You will see, how encryption and decryption works with the Caesar component in CT2. After that, we present two different ways of breaking a Caesar cipher in CT2. 1) Break a Caesar cipher with a brute-force search by testing all possible keys 2) Break a Caesar cipher with the help of letter frequency analysis With both methods, a Caesar ciphertext can be broken instantly. Method 1 is useful for short ciphertexts. Method 2 needs more ciphertext (as you will see in the video), but does not need to test each key.
