In this video, we encrypt text using the advanced encryption standard (AES) and a key derived from a password. The key derivation function (KDF) we use is PBKDF#1 (password-based key derivation function #1) from the Public-Key Cryptography Standards (PKCS#5).
We first discuss the basic idea of encryption using a password and key derivation functions. Then, we use a template of CrypTool 2 to encrypt and decrypt text. The ciphertext is BASE64-encoded and can be easily copied to and from emails.
The PKCS#5 standard can be found here: https:// tools.ietf.org/html/rfc8018 (PKCS #5: Password Based Cryptography Specification Version 2.1)
