Bioluminescent beaches

Bioluminescent beaches glow due to marine organisms like plankton (dinoflagellates) that emit light when disturbed. This phenomenon often appears as a blue or green glow in waves or footprints on wet sand. Some famous bioluminescent beaches include Mosquito Bay (Puerto Rico), Vaadhoo Island (Maldives), and Luminous Lagoon (Jamaica). The glow is caused by a chemical reaction involving luciferin and oxygen. It’s best seen on dark nights with little light pollution.
