About this video
Quantum entanglement is a weird phenomenon in quantum physics that describes a mysterious correlation between particles, regardless of the vast distance that separates them. It's as if two entangled particles share a mysterious connection that allows them to instantaneously affect each other's properties, even if they are light-years apart.
Quantum entanglement begins with two particles, such as electrons, that are created together in a way that their properties become correlated. This often happens when a particle decays into two other particles, and they inherit certain characteristics from the original particle.
These entangled particles share properties such as spin, momentum, or polarization. For example, if two electrons are entangled in terms of spin, their spins are connected. This means if one electron has a "spin up" orientation, the other must have a "spin down" orientation.
Now, here's the intriguing part. Even if these entangled particles are separated by vast distances, when you measure one of the particles and observe its property (for example its spin), the other particle's property will instantly assume a corresponding value. This happens without any signal traveling between them. Albert Einstein famously called this "spooky action at a distance."
Quantum entanglement has important applications in fields like quantum computing and quantum cryptography. While quantum entanglement remains one of the most puzzling aspects of quantum physics, it's a well-documented and experimentally confirmed phenomenon.
