(24 Feb 2017) DEEPAK PERWANI'S LINE HIGHLIGHTS FASHION PAKISTAN WEEK SPRING/SUMMER 2017 FINALE
Pakistani fashion swiveled between extremes on the finale of the two-day Fashion Pakistan Week Spring/Summer 2017 in Karachi.
Industry veteran Deepak Perwani dominated proceedings with his 'Pure' collection that combined bold cuts and subtle embroidery for an elevated look.
"The predominant colors are white and blue and the blue that I am wearing. It's a spring/summer collection and these are the colors that look good," said Perwani.
Amir Adnan by Parishey Adnan provided verve to the proceedings with an eclectic collection that ranged in style and presentation.
"Essentially, it is inspired by the theory of Plato who once said that in every day mundane things there are certain elements and objects that transcend the ordinary," said Adnan.
Nida Azwer was another big name showcasing her collection but failed to get the desired response from those in attendance. Amato and Inaaya also unveiled their spring/summer collections.
For many, the appearance of Pakistani fashion stalwarts to celebrate a decade of Fashion Pakistan Council was the biggest attraction. The pioneers of the industry showcased three outfits each to celebrate the occasion.
"I liked all the designers that were showcasing in the ten year segment of the grand finale. You would have seen that there were HSY, Bunto Kazmi, Umer Saeed, so those are big names.
They are the ones who started this industry," said fashion enthusiast Saba Chaudhry.
For fashion journalist Aamna Haider Isani, it was the failure of the big names to showcase collections that deprived the event of value.
"I feel that all the designers that showed in the finale should have shown full collections because those are the best designers we have. It is not fair to the platform if they don't participate in it. You can put up a platform, polish it, you can make it really good; but until designers take ownership, we can't do anything without content," Isani said.
