India have made 3 changes. Jitesh Sharma, Washington Sundar and Arshdeep Singh come in for Sanju Samson, Kuldeep Yadav and Harshit Rana. India Playing XI: Abhishek Sharma, Shubman Gill, Suryakumar Yadav (c), Tilak Varma, Jitesh Sharma (wk), Shivam Dube, Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, Varun Chakaravarthy, Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh Australia Playing XI: Mitchell Marsh (c), Travis Head, Josh Inglis (wk), Tim David, Mitchell Owen, Marcus Stoinis, Matthew Short, Xavier Bartlett, Sean Anthony Abbott, Nathan Ellis, Matthew Kuhnemann PREVIEW: Mitchell Marsh continued his love affair with winning tosses and bowling first. Josh Hazlewood was right on the money as always and kept rattling the Indian batting line-up and finished his four-spell in one go, registering a match-defining spell of 3/13. Nathan Ellis and Xavier Bartlett soon came to the party to dismantle the tourists. Both picked up two wickets, while Marcus Stoinis also chipped in with a scalp. Two other Indian wickets fell via run outs as the Men in Blue were bundled out for just 125 inside 19 overs. Australian openers, Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head, went honkers and bonkers from the get-go, adding 51 runs for the opening wicket and setting the tone. Varun got rid of the dangerous Head once again for 28 off 15. Marsh kept going and tore into Kuldeep before he was taken care of by the same bowler in the same over, but not before smashing 46 off 26. There was a mini collapse, with Varun, Kuldeep and Bumrah trying to drag the game with wickets at regular intervals, with all three of them bagging a couple of wickets each. However, there weren't enough runs on the board to trouble the Aussies as they cruised home inside 14 overs with 4 wickets in hand. Abhishek Sharma was helplessly watching his batting partners come and go at the other end. However, it didn't hamper the way he batted, as it seemed as if he was batting on a completely different venue. The left-hander smashed the Aussie bowlers to all parts of MCG and scored 68 off just 37 balls, before Ellis outsmarted him in the penultimate over. Harshit Rana was sent ahead of Shivam Dube, and that raised many eyebrows. Although the seam-bowling all-rounder scored a handy 35 off 33 balls and added a slow 56-run rebuilding stand with Abhishek, he wasn't able to rotate strikes on a regular basis, keeping the dashing opener off strike for a while. If that is one area where the management's decision puzzled everyone, there are a few more. Shubman Gill took strike on the first ball, which isn't a usual custom when Abhishek is around. Suryakumar Yadav batted at three in the first T20I, which is his normal position, and got some runs, but was dropped back to number 4 in Melbourne, with Sanju Samson getting another new position at three. If this stuff comes under the batting, we then move onto the bowling. India's leading wicket-taker in T20Is, Arshdeep Singh, has been warming the bench in the first two matches, at venues where the left-arm seamer could have been extremely useful. Still, India decided to play both Varun Chakaravarthy and Kuldeep Yadav. Varun can be utilised in any conditions. It is still a puzzling decision to play Kuldeep ahead of Arshdeep unless the conditions clearly demand it. Kuldeep wasn't considered in the first two ODIs, where he could have been more useful than finger spinners, and it looks as if India are following the mistakes and overcorrecting them in the matches where they aren't required to.
