The Government of India has shared a major update on the 8th Pay Commission (8th CPC) in Parliament. Responding to questions in the Lok Sabha, the Ministry of Finance informed that the 8th Central Pay Commission was officially constituted on November 3, 2025, and it has already started functioning from its office in New Delhi.

The commission will review key issues related to pay scales, salaries, allowances, and pension structures of central government employees and pensioners. According to the government, the 8th Pay Commission has been given 18 months to submit its recommendations after its constitution.

The government also clarified that the fiscal impact on the Union Budget will only be known after the commission submits its recommendations and they are accepted by the government.

The commission is chaired by former Supreme Court judge Ranjana Prakash Desai, with Pulak Ghosh as part-time member and Pankaj Jain as member-secretary. The commission has also begun inviting suggestions from employees, pensioners, organizations, and the public.

Employees and stakeholders can submit their memorandums and suggestions through the official website (8cpc.gov.in) until April 30, 2026. Additionally, a questionnaire with 18 questions has been hosted on the MyGov portal, and the last date to submit responses is March 31, 2026.
