About this video
Before I get all the hate comments, we want to express that this was our experience about Belize. Some people absolutely love it, and have moved here to retire!
We stayed here for a month. 8 miles north of San Pedro. This was not on the mainland.
1. Almost everything was 2-3x more expensive. Islanders have a discount card, so it's not as expensive for them. The items that weren't expensive was beans, rice, and bananas.
2. Only golf carts on the island. It would have been totally fine if it wasn't for the unbelievable potholes. A little difficult getting groceries for a family of 5. We had to go to the grocery store every few days.
3. All of Belize loses power a few times a week. For hours. Really frustrating when trying to work remotely.
4. The mosquitos are on a different level here. We went through a can of bug spray a day and still got bit 20-30 times everyday. Seems to be worse in Bugtober (October).
5. Super smelly seaweed takes over the beaches. Could be different during the dry season, but Islanders say it's year round.
If we ever go back it would be for scuba diving. The water away from the beaches is incredibly beautiful and crystal clear! @whitesandsdiveshop was absolutely incredible!
