Correction:
The part about "cd ..." being a shorthand for moving up multiple directories is incorrect based on standard Bash. It is possible with some implementations of other shells but not in Bash. In order to do this in standard Bash you would use "cd ../.." and add another "../" for each tier you want to go up.
