In Wisconsin the Brandy Old Fashioned rules Supreme. It is the state drink for sure and according to Jeffery Morgenthaler the great state of Wisconsin orders hundreds of thousands of cases of Korbel; cheap California brandy to keep them rolling in Brandy Old Fashioneds. You may want to turn your nose up at this one but I have tasted it a few different ways and when this drink is made right, it is ridiculously delicious!
I have to thank my good friend Dave Schlachtenhaufen for recommending this cocktail. Dave runs the cocktail program at The Brown Palace Hotel in Denver, so if you guys are close by, check him out, his drinks are second to none. This take on the drink is a reconstruction of the original spearheaded by Jeff Morgenthaler of Clyde Common in Portland, OR. Morgenthaler. It’s very close to the original interpretation and it’s a damned fine one the one difference is we won't be serving with Sprite to make it sweet or Squirt to make it Sour. So as Morgenthaler has said: “Brace yourselves, Cocktail nerds!”
