4 Understanding Slope-Intercept Form: A 4-Step Guide

About this video

In this video lesson we will discover that when a linear equation is solved for y it is written in slope-intercept form. We will learn that slope-intercept form is y=mx + b where m represents the slope of the line and b represents the y-intercept of the line. Our essential question will ask us to think about what is true about all y-intercepts. We will learn that the x-coordinate of ANY y-intercept is 0 and that the ordered pair for any y-intercept is (0, b). We will learn the 4 steps to graphing a linear equation in slope-intercept form. Step 1: Identify the slope and y-intercept of the line. Step 2: Plot the y-intercept. Step 3: Using the slope and rise over run, rise and run from the y-intercept and plot a second point. Step 4: Connect the two points with a line. Student practice is embedded in the video with modeled exemplar solutions.
