31 🚀 October 24 Atlas Update: 17 Active Comets, Planetary Defense Alert & IAWN Insights

Something unusual is happening inside our Solar System. ☄️
Seventeen comets are active right now…far more than normal, and astronomers have noticed a strange pattern: as the interstellar comet 3I ATLAS moves inward, the others seem to drift closer… then scatter when it moves away.
Coincidence? Maybe. But the timing has a lot of people watching closely.

At the same time, the International Asteroid Warning Network (IAWN) has launched a new observation campaign to study 3I ATLAS between November 2025 and January 2026.
That’s real…confirmed on their official site.
But online, the campaign’s wording has fueled a much bigger rumor: that NASA quietly activated its planetary-defense system because of this comet.

Here’s what’s actually happening 👇
✅ ESA’s ExoMars and Mars Express orbiters captured 3I ATLAS as it passed 30 million km from Mars, showing a growing coma.
✅ NASA’s Swift Observatory measured it venting ~40 kg of water per second…an interstellar “firehose.”
✅ The comet reaches perihelion (closest to the Sun) on October 29, 2025.
✅ Meanwhile, the IAWN website reveals it’s also participating in a simulated asteroid-impact scenario for the 2025 Planetary Defense Conference.
That exercise is fictional…a training drill run through NASA’s Center for Near-Earth Object Studies, but its timing has been mistaken online for a live defense activation.

Add in NASA’s silence during the U.S. government shutdown, and you’ve got the perfect storm for speculation:
17 active comets, a defense simulation, and a real interstellar visitor approaching the Sun.
