2025 Toyota RAV4 UNCENSORED - Here's What I REALLY Think on Everyman Driver

The 2025 Toyota RAV4 is a compact SUV offered in gas and hybrid versions. There's also a plug-in-hybrid model that we review separately. Every gas-powered RAV4 comes with a 2.5-liter four cylinder good for 203 horsepower paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission. The RAV4 Hybrid couples the 2.5-liter gas engine with an electric motor to produce 219 combined horsepower. It uses a continuously variable transmission. Both versions have optional all-wheel drive.

We especially like the Hybrid for some unexpected reasons. In addition to its improved fuel economy (40 mpg combined for some trims) over the gas-powered RAV4, the Hybrid improves low-speed and standing-start acceleration thanks to the added torque of its electric motor. This is especially true for the all-wheel-drive version, which uses a second electric motor to power the rear axle. Otherwise, the RAV4 is, well, not exactly athletic. Other SUVs in the class offer far better control feel and feedback when cornering and braking.

Every RAV4 comes standard with a suite of safety features included under the Toyota Safety Sense label. These include adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, automatic high beams, a pre-collision system, and road-sign assist.

Some solid competitors include the much smaller and more fun Mazda CX-5, the equally practical and efficient Honda CR-V, and the high-value Kia Sportage.
