Kiaโs 2017 Forte got a refresh that improves its looks, particularly up front, and adds a new sport trim (the S) as well as more safety tech and a few more options. A new engine improves efficiency, too, making the new Forte a well-rounded competitor in the hyper-competitive compact sedan segment. Kia keeps starting prices low by making a number of expected features extra-cost options, but even with those additions, the Forte provides a cost-effective alternative to the Civic, Focus, Jetta, and Mazda3.
The Forteโs new engine is an updated version of the 2.0-liter inline four thatโs been used in other Kia and Hyundai cars for about 5 years. It has a bit more power than the previous one, with 147 hp and 132 lb-ft of torque, but it gets mileage ratings of 29 mpg city and 38 highway, 3 mpg better in the city and 1 better on the highway than last yearโs version. Surprisingly, the manual transmission available in the LX hurts mileage, and the old engine still powers the flagship EX trim. Read the full review on CarGurus: https://cargur.us/k4fFm
