2 Month Typical & Atypical Development | Baby Motor Development Exam

1. Supine Position: Typical signs include maintaining head alignment in midline and tracking objects. Atypical signs include a consistent head tilt or reduced activity.
2. Pull to Sit: Typical signs include some head lag but the baby begins using shoulder and arm muscles to stabilize. Atypical signs include significant head lag and a rounded spine, indicating the need for additional support.
3. Horizontal Suspension: Typical signs include working to maintain the horizontal position with neck and trunk muscles, though head control may falter slightly when moving the arms. Atypical signs include minimal head lifting, weak neck and thoracic extension, and a rounded body appearance with little anti-gravity tone.
4. Prone Position: Typical signs include lifting the head and trunk about 45 degrees, showing neck extension and hip flexion with growing stability and shoulder strength. Atypical signs include difficulty lifting the head or trunk, reliance on leg movement instead of core stability, and hips that remain flat on the mat.
