Aures Mountains: Berber Heritage in Algeria 🏞️

Dating back to Antiquity, the term comes from the Berber Awras, which means "wild animal". Thus, the Adrar n'Awras literally translates as the "wild mountain", in particular because of the large number of wild animals formerly living in these mountains. The Romans derived the Latin name Aurasius mons from it. A century ago, the term found its justification in the fawn yellow color of the massif1.
