About this video
Negotiations between Afghanistan and Pakistan are still ongoing in Turkey’s capital, Istanbul. Afghan-based TOLOnews reported that the talks gained momentum as both sides reached agreements on many key issues. According to sources cited by TOLOnews, Afghanistan made “every effort to find a solution to the problem, but the Pakistani side did not appear to share this intention”. Sources claimed that there seemed to be “no coordination within the Pakistani delegation” during the negotiations. Meanwhile, during the talks, the Pakistani side asked Afghanistan to accept that Pakistan has the right to carry out attacks on Afghan soil during TTP assaults. Notably, Pakistan for the first time acknowledged having an agreement with the U.S. allowing drone strikes and claimed it cannot break that agreement. According to Afghanistan’s delegation, the TTP is an old and internal challenge for Pakistan, but not Afghanistan’s problem. The Islamic Emirate has repeatedly emphasized that insecurity in Pakistan is a domestic matter for that country. Meanwhile, the Afghan side remains committed to ensuring that no one uses Afghan territory to harm other nations. Kabul asked Pakistan to assure that it would not violate Afghanistan’s airspace and would not allow U.S. drones to use Pakistan’s territory. As per sources, the Pakistani delegation initially agreed to some of the guarantees, but later, after a telephonic conversation, reversed their position. The sources said the Pakistani delegation had “no control” over U.S. drones and ISIS. As per sources, even, the Qatari & Turkish mediators also surprised by Pakistani delegation conduct.
