Chandigarh Slum-Free Drive: Major Encroachments Cleared by UT Administration In its mission to make Chandigarh a slum-free city, the UT Administration has intensified its action against illegal encroachments. Recently, nearly 1,000 jhuggis in Sanjay Colony, Industrial Area Phase-1 were demolished, reclaiming around 6 acres of government land. Now, the focus shifts to Janta Colony, Sector 25, spread across 10 acres, where approximately 2,500 shanties still stand. A special document verification camp was held to assess the eligibility of residents for rehabilitation under the Central Government’s Affordable Rental Housing scheme.
