JULIE NOLEN - LOVE IS (BalconyTV)

Julie Nolen has been fronting Telling Stories, a ten year collaboration between Austin songwriters Julie Nolen and Terry Dossey. This song is Nolen's first attempt at a non-bitter love song and is something she wrote after being asked to "play a love song" for a friend who was proposing marriage to his girlfriend. Amanda Kitchens, also a long-time Austin-resident and friend of Nolen, accompanies on accordion. Nolen and Dossey write across many genres including rock, pop, Latin, funk, Americana and country, the cohesive thread being solid funky grooves, melodic harmony vocals, and evocative and insightful lyrics. Their songs tell compelling stories of loves won and lost, betrayals and triumphs, and other convoluted tragedies and comedies relating to the human condition and relationships. Telling Stories released its second album, "Dirty Little Secrets" on June 1st 2010, and can currently be seen performing live on PACT TV in Austin, Texas. Their first CD, "Greyhound," was released in February 2004 to much critical acclaim, still selling steadily to date. The band plays several stages around Austin and Nolen can be seen playing solo frequently around town as well.
