This bride has shared the heartwarming moment between her and her grandma as she prepares to be married at a hospice, to get one last special moment together.
An 80-year-old grandmother battling leukaemia lived just long enough to witness one final, unforgettable moment, seeing her beloved granddaughter surprise her groom in the wedding dress she bought for just $10.
Konda Ogle, from North Carolina, USA, captured the emotional footage that has melted hearts across the country.
Her 21-year-old granddaughter, Cheney Ogle Haws, and Cheney’s nan, Linda Ogle, shared an unbreakable bond - one that made their final days together a story of love, strength, and second-hand magic.
In June 2024, Linda, already battling leukaemia, went thrift shopping with her daughter-in-law and Cheney. That day, in the back racks of a local store, they spotted a hidden gem, a $10 Vera Wang wedding dress. Linda instantly knew it was meant for Cheney.
Konda said: “She purchased it for her granddaughter to wear at her wedding reception.
“It was just one of those beautiful moments, simple, unexpected, and full of love.”
By the end of March 2025, Linda’s health took a turn, and she was admitted to hospice. With Cheney’s April wedding fast approaching, the family realized something painful, Linda wouldn’t make it to the big day.
Konda told how the hospice staff rallied. Nurses arranged for the facility’s chapel to host a surprise ‘mini wedding.’
Volunteers decorated the space with flowers and a volunteer guitarist filled the air with soft music. The groom waited at the end of the aisle.
And then, in a moment so intimate it defied words, Cheney entered in the $10 thrifted gown her Nan had lovingly picked out.
Four days later, Linda unfortunately passed away, but her dream had come true.
Konda said: “We knew Nan would enjoy seeing her granddaughter surprise her groom in the dress,.
“So, we asked the nurses if there was a place she could change. What happened next… was beyond anything we imagined.
“There was a special prayer for the couple.
“Nan was thrilled. She was glowing. She couldn’t stop smiling.”
