44-year-old Leslie Sedgewick, of Aldergrove Drive in Middlesbrough, carried out the attack just days before Christmas, on Friday 20th December 2024.

The woman, in her thirties was attacked from behind, punched and kicked to the floor and her mobile phone was stolen in the incident, which took place around 6:30am near to Marton Road.

The woman managed to flee, having suffered facial injuries including chipped teeth, a suspected broken nose and bruising to her arm and wrist during the attack.

Officers including the Dog Support Unit immediately attended the area in search of the suspect, who had fled the scene.

A short time later, PC Lee Whitehouse, who was on duty with PD Kira, spotted a male matching the description, who attempted to run away. Footage below shows PD Kira who detained the man a short distance away, and he was arrested.
