CNBC reports that iPhone owners who no longer have a warranty will need to pay an additional $20 for a replacement battery starting March 1.
For example, a new iPhone 13 battery currently
costs $69. In two months, it will cost $89.
Replacement batteries for iPhone 14 models, which are currently under warranty, will cost $99 once those warranties expire.
Older iPhones, various iPads and MacBook laptops will also see battery price increases.
CNBC reports that the price increase reflects Apple's continued response to inflation regarding labor and parts costs. .
In the past, changes in replacement battery fees have impacted iPhone sales.
In 2017, Apple found itself in the middle of a scandal after users discovered the company used software code to slow iPhones with older batteries.
As a result, it dropped the cost of replacement batteries to $29 and many people opted for the cheap fix rather than buying a new phone, which caused phone sales to decline.
With the renewed increase, some people may choose to utilize non-Apple repair stores that are cheaper or upgrade their phones instead of buying a new battery.
Last year, Apple also raised iPhone
prices in Australia, Germany, Japan
and the U.K. to combat inflation.
