We don't know too much about Chinaski. He's been plying his trade for the ever-efficient Live at Robert Johnson label for a bit - making appearances on both compilations to date - but The Video Dead charts as his first solo flight on the imprint. And oof, is it a huggable affair. Fuelled by an infatuation with the VHS-style, visual aesthetics of the 1980s and old-school synths, its a project consistently enveloped in humid tones. Analogue-based deep house pumps trickle in-and-out of proto hip-hop and hypnotising jackers like a warm day back and forth between sauna and beach towel.

"Midnight Workout" is a harmonious voyage, planting super-sensitive synth harmonies into a vintage-pop bed with poise.
