When the fallen Angel Inarius laid bare his grand plans to return to heaven. It fell upon his first Son, Rathma to bear the somber news.
But what has Rathma possibly foreseen, that blocks any attempt on his fathers behalf to return the light, and means he is inexorably bound to the decaying world he created?
Well, we see the interaction between Inarius & Rathma regarding the rathmas prophecy where Rathma shares.
So, Inarius believes the line “ Then came a spear of light, piercing Hatred's heart”
Was his fate to kill Lilith & thus heaven would absolve him of his sins…
However, regardless of his first Sons vehement protests that the prophecies events were pre ordained. When Inarius stated Heaven would welcome him home if he was successful in Hell, Rathma said “I wish it were so, Father” and I don’t believe Rathma is referring to the fact that it is not Inarius who shall pierce hatreds heart & that he has misread the prophecy for his own selfish gains.
Instead, I believe Rathma is saddened by the bitter irony that, no matter what Inarius does, heaven isn’t waiting for him with open arms. But why do I know that? Well for one, the developers confirmed that Heaven has closed its gates.
But even sadder is that there has been a picture shared during a developer update, that is indicative that Heaven has most likely become an outpost of hell as this is possible picture of the Silver City in Diablo 4. And while Tomorrow's video will be exploring WHO destroyed heaven, suffice it to say, even if Inarius did reach the diamond gates, what he would find would be far worse than the sanctuary he is marooned in.
