-Clave is both a rhythmic pattern found in latin music and a percussion instrument. The instrument is Spanish in origin, claves are two thick pieces of dowel traditionally made of Rosewood or Ebony. The non-dominant hand creates a resonating chamber by holding one clave between the fingertips and thumb. The other clave is held in the dominant hand like a drumstick.
